The HERITAGE FARMSTEAD MUSEUM offers education programs and guided tours for school field trips, focusing on agricultural history during the period of 1891-1936.

Tours start at 10am and last approximately 90 minutes.  Our tours are docent-led, to allow students to maximize their learning and have the opportunity to ask questions of a trained volunteer or staff member.  Teachers and parent chaperones are essential to support this experience.

There is a 40-student minimum in order to schedule a guided field trip. Maximum of 100 students per day.

Advanced registration is required, and payment must be received prior to your visit.  Email education@heritagefarmstead.org to schedule your visit today!

Tours are from 10am-11:30pm. Schools depart by 12:30pm.

Pack your lunches and have a picnic after your tour. Wheeled coolers are recommended. Picnic tables are available first come, first serve. We currently have 15 tables on the farm.

Rooted in the Past:

Children’s Lives on the Farm

Preschool – 2nd grade

Students explore how children used simple technologies in the past to accomplish daily chores. Tours focus on daily life on the 4.5-acre farm with six hands-on stations. 15-minute stations could include meeting the animals, experiencing the one-room schoolhouse, washing laundry, feeding the chickens, milking Buttermilk (a mechanical cow), and planting seeds. PreK and Kindergarten classes will hear a story in the schoolhouse. 1st and 2nd graders will explore school artifacts.

Life on the Blackland Prairie

3rd-5th grade

Students explore technologies used on the farm to better understand how Texans have adapted to their environment over time. The tour features six stations throughout the 4.5-acre historic farmstead. 15-minute stations could include exploring the historic Wilson House (first floor only), meeting the animals, experiencing a lesson in the one-room schoolhouse, washing laundry, feeding the chickens, and plowing and planting a field.
